We Need Alternatives

Middle East politics, global warming and increasing demand for fuel are only a few of the reasons why there is an urgent need for the development of new alternative energy sources. In the United States and abroad advanced new systems to harness and create new energy sources are being tested, implemented and marketed by some of the world’s most creative individuals and corporations. There exists room for improvement and government officials world-wide are proposing and passing legislation to expand the energy markets.

A future energy crisis is certainly imminent if we are not careful with our energy use today. Fossil fuels are not infinite in supply and are being depleted at an ever growing rate. Already prices have increased to a point where individuals find it hard to afford. Finding new alternatives is paramount to a better future for the world.

An outgrowth from the use of fossil fuels stems from the fact that they are harmful to our natural environment. Despite decades of warnings from our most prominent scientists, we find our world today experiencing the effects of our dependence on these fuels. The results are largely negative. There is a definite rise in the earth’s overall temperature which is changing climates in many areas. Torrential floods, exasperating heat and record cold snaps have been experienced as never before. Our ozone layers in the atmosphere have become thinner also aiding in the warming of the earth.

As if this is not enough, problems arise from the very fabric of our societies and economies. Higher crude oil prices create shortages in smaller countries which utilize the crude for electricity and basic transportation. Households bear the major brunt of these prices. They depend in large part on being able to transport themselves to jobs which are usually more than a walking distance away. High transportation costs raise the price for basic commodities and services. Higher electric costs have led many to a life of crime forcing them to steal the power they require. Alternatives are needed to resolve their crisis and they are needed now.

Tapping into alternative and renewable energy sources is the key to solving these problems and more. The cosmos in its infinite wisdom gave this planet and its inhabitants all the key elements to live an abundant life free from pollution, extreme weather conditions, and dare we say, economic strife. Natural sources to obtain energy are abundant and freely available. The question is in what manner we decide to use them. If profit is the only motivating factor in determining our energy sources, then the world is doomed to an existence of ever increasing problems. Today’s leaders, inventors and businesses have proven that it does not have to be a world filled with dread and doom. Only time will tell.
